A comedy.

‘Zounds! These are mortal stabs to me,
to see vice parleyed with,
and sometimes I feel suddenly inclined
to fly into a wilderness far from the approach of men.’

“Is honesty possible in human relationships?” the misanthrope asks.

Alceste, the misanthrope, wants to resign from the world because he cannot tolerate its deceitfulness, hypocrisy and twisted politeness. He wants to be thoroughly honest and demands it from others too. This leads to the collapse of the social structure. Alceste gains many enemies and would rather leave the society for good. If only there was no Célimène who artfully veils the sharp eye of Alceste and makes him forget about his principles...

These ever topical issues are confronted in this production by a director with a unique style and a powerful company of young comedians.
VAT Teater is pleased to collaborate with the Swiss director Markus Zohner who directed here the Kalevipoeg five years ago.
