Aare Toikka

Artistic Director

Toikka (born in 1965) is actor, stage director, screenwriter, producer. Studied in Tallinn University and Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Toikka is one of the founders of the the VAT Theatre, the first independent Theatre in Estonia (1987), artistic director since 1993.

His theatreworks main direction can be described as theatre minimalism and he has adopted the epic and physical theatre principles.

Toikka directed over 70 productions in theatre, radio, television like:

His works have been awarded in several festivals.
He got Estonian Theatrecriticians Award (2006).
Estonian theatrecriticians choosed Toikka's "Faust" as best performance of the season 2012/2013.

Toikka is member of Estonian Theatredirectors Union.
